DOVER — Ten Downstate teams have made the field for the three DIAA football state tournaments that were determined this morning.

In Class 3A, Smyrna, Sussex Central and Cape Henlopen will all be playing when the tournaments start next weekend.

In Class 2A, Delmar, Lake Forest, Woodbridge and Laurel are all in the tourney bracket.

In Class 1A, Indian, River, Polytech and First State Military are in the tournament.

Dover (3-6) did not make the Class 3A tourney because the DIAA did not recognize its forfeit win over Carnasie, N.Y. early in the season. DIAA regulations require a signed contract for the game for a team to be awarded a forfeit.

Smyrna (5-5) is the No. 2 seed in Class 3A after winning District II. District champions automatically receive one of the top two seeds in Class 3A.

The Eagles get a rematch with No. 7 St. Georges (5-5), which it will host on Friday at 7 p.m. Smyrna just lost to the Hawks, 19-8, two weeks ago.

Also in Class 3A, No. 4 Sussex Central (8-2) will host No. 5 Appoquinimink (7-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m. in another rematch. The Jaguars edged the Golden Knights 33-30 during the regular season.

Cape Henlopen (5-5) also earned an at-large berth and will head to Wilmington to face top-seeded Salesianum (9-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Sals downed the Vikings in last year’s state championship game.

District III champion Delmar (9-1) received the No. 2 seed in Class 2A. The Wildcats host No. 7 Red Lion Christian (7-3) in their first-round contest on Friday at 7 p.m.

Lake Forest (5-5) earned the No. 6 seed and will go to Wilmington for a rematch with No. 7 Howard (7-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Abessinio Stadium. The Wildcats topped the Spartans, 18-12, on Sept. 26.

On Saturday, fifth-seeded Woodbridge will play at No. 4 Archmere at 1 p.m.

Laurel (5-5), as the No. 8 seed, gets the task of traveling to top-seeded Caravel (10-0) on Friday at 7 p.m.

In Class 1A, Indian River (9-1) is the No. 1 seed and will host No. Conrad (5-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Fourth-seeded Polytech (8-2) will host No. 5 First State Military (7-3) after beating the Bulldogs, 34-19, during the regular season. The game will be played on Saturday at 7 p.m.
