Milford - On Dec. 5, 2018, Susan McVaugh Bennett received the promise of everlasting life as she passed peacefully, surrounded by her family.
She was born on Aug. 20, 1945, in Wilmington to the late Richard and Alice McVaugh.
Sue graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1963 and obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish from the University of Delaware in 1967.
Mrs. Bennett taught Spanish at Milford High School for eight years before pursuing her passion in photography. Sue started her own photography business and specialized in photographing weddings for over 20 years. She also worked with her husband as an insurance agent for Aflac for almost 20 years.
Sue was active in Avenue U.M.C., where she was a member of the choir, bell choir, and editor of the church's newsletter for many years. She was honored to be selected as Lay Laureate for the church in 2013, in appreciation of her dedication and service. She had also been active in Community Bible Study (CBS) for many years.
In the early 90's, Sue was very proud to serve on the Milford Public Library Board of Commissioners, which worked to build the new library building.
Besides photography, some of her greatest pleasures in life were traveling, doing puzzles, playing golf, and spending time at the beach with her family.
Those who knew Sue know that the world has lost a gentle and kind soul.
Sue is survived by her husband of 51 years, Everett Bennett. She is also survived by her two daughters, Katy Jester and her husband Daniel of Alexandria, Va., and Nancy Freebery and her husband Mark of Milford. Sue is additionally survived by her four beloved grandchildren, Bennett and Brighton Jester, and Addison and Julia Freebery.
The family will receive visitors at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, from 1 to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 with a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will be held at Slaughter Neck Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Milford Public Library, 11 S.E. Front St., Milford, DE 19963.
