Stella Moore Smith

Moore Smith, 92 MILFORD - Stella "Lib" Moore Smith, of Milford, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center. Lib was born Feb. 12, 1920 in Ellendale, daughter of the late Gove and Clara (Messick) Betts. Lib drove a school bus for 46 years. For several years, she and her first husband, "Cap", owned and operated a service station, a Tavern and the Red Barn Dance Hall, located near Waples Pond in Milton. She enjoyed crocheting and dearly enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She had been involved with and was a former member of the American Legion, in Millsboro, Moose and Elks Lodges, in Milford and Milford Senior Center. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband: Edwin "Cap" Moore, her second husband: Eugene "Smitty" Smith; a son: Herschel B. Moore; great granddaughter: Megan Moore; and 5 siblings. She is survived by her son, Charles E. Moore, Sr., and wife Donna, of Milton; daughter-in-law, Ernie Moore of Lincoln; a sister, Pearl Carmean; brother, Edward Betts; a very close friend, Isabelle Collins of Milford; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal Street, Milton where friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park. Flowers are accepted or contributions can be made Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, De, 19963.
