Stanley Coulton Little, Sr., of Felton, Delaware, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025.
He was born on March 23, 1926, in Dover, Del-aware, to the late Edward R. Little and Elizabeth J.(Lynch) Little.
Stanley proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. He enlist-ed in the Navy in 1944, at almost 18 years old. He served aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Shangri-La, and an L.S.T. Ship for sup-ply and transport. He was in the Battle of Leyte Gulf (October 23-26, 1944), which was the largest na-val battle of World War II, and widely considered the greatest and largest naval battle in history. Stanley left the Navy on March 22, 1947, as his enlistment was up, earning a general discharge.
Following his military service, he utilized the G.I. Bill to further his ed-ucation and completed a 4-year plumbing appren-ticeship to become a mas-ter plumber. He worked a short time at Dover Plumbing Supply. He then took a Civil Service position at the Dover Air Force Base as a plumber in 1952 and retired after 30 years, in 1982.
Stanley enjoyed working on automobiles and mo-torcycles and was a long-time, active member of the Delmarva Retreads Mo-torcycle Club, joining in 1981. He was also a long-time member of the VFW Post 3238, and the Moose Lodge. Above all, Stanley cherished time spent with his family and friends and took great joy in feeding the squirrels and birds. He was a kind, generous man, who helped anyone and everyone, and did what he could to assist others, al-ways. He had a great sense of humor, and you could always count on him to make you laugh. He will be missed more than he will ever know.
In addition to his par-ents, Stanley is preceded in death by brothers, Ed-ward R. Little Jr., John B. Little, and Irving “Mick- ey” Little. Stanley’s only child, his beloved son, Stanley Coulton Little, Jr. passed away in 2019. He is also preceded in death by his long-time com-panion of 53 years, Eliza-beth “Libby” Porter, who passed away not even two weeks before his son.
Stanley is survived by his grandson, Benjamin Little (Jillian Watkins); his great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Watkins-Lit-tle, Olivia Little, Sophie Little, and Colton Little. His long-time companion, Libby, had 7 children who Stanley considered family: Sheri (Clinton), Norman, Joyce, Sandy, Bobby, Marty, and Tony who will miss him, as well as their children. He is also sur-vived by his four-legged companion, Buster, who is now being cared for and spoiled by his great-grand-children.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, Jan-uary 2, 2026, with visi-tation from 10-11am at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware.
Interment will be held at Sharon Hills Memori-al Park Cemetery, Dover, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribu-tions be made to the Del-marva Retreads Motor-cycle Club and the VFW Post 3238.
