Stanford Leroy Bratcher, 85
SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Stanford Leroy Bratcher of Sudlersville died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, in Chester River Medical Center, Chestertown. He was 85.
Mr. Bratcher was born near Pondtown, son of the late William Edward and Julia (Jeffers) Bratcher.
He received his formal education in the Old Dudley School on Dudley"s Corner Road, near Sudlersville.
For several years, Mr. Bratcher worked at the Powder Plant in Elkton. He later worked for the Campbell Soup Co., Chestertown, retiring after 21years.
He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved watching sports on television. He also enjoyed his weekly visits to Dixon"s Furniture Auction in Crumpton. He enjoyed playing bingo and family gatherings were very special to him. He was well known for his ability to come upon a project and become an immediate supervisor.
Mr. Bratcher was an active member of St. Daniel"s United Methodist Church, Barclay, serving for many years on the usher board. He was also a trustee and groundskeeper of Jeffers Chapel, in Sagefield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Ann Bratcher; a sister, Genevieve "Ginny" Potts; and a brother, George "Timmy" Bratcher.
He is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Emily and Russell Winchester of Sudlersville, Julia Mae Bratcher of Easton, Delores Bratcher of Wilmington, Del., and Michele and Jonathan White of Los Angeles; two sons, Stanford "Timmy" Bratcher of Centreville and Michael Bratcher of Queenstown; four sisters, Emily Orr of Baltimore, Marian Kennedy and Sylvia Wilmore, both of Sudlersville, and Nadine Pettyjohn of Chestertown; two brothers, Winfield Bratcher and Terrance Bratcher, both of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Community Baptist Church, Barclay, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Pondtown.
