NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Simon E. Byler, 63, of North Las Vegas, Nev., and formerly of Lancaster, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Thursday in Las Vegas.

He was the husband of Bonnie L. Brosey Byler, with whom he had celebrated 33 years of marriage on May 22. Born in Dover, Del., Simon was the son of Ervin S. and Emma Stoltzfus Byler of Dover.

Simon had been a self-employed carpenter for most of his life. He and his wife had also been caretakers of a 90-acre ranch in San Jose, Calif., in recent years.

Simon had done mission work in Uganda, Africa and in China, where he earned a great appreciation of China and its culture. He was hoping to continue with his mission work as a full-time pursuit until his illness. He was a member of the First Assembly Kings Cathedral in Maui, Hawaii.

He loved to fish, and was an enthusiastic NFL football and NASCAR fan.

In addition to his wife and parents, Simon is survived by three sons: Matthew, married to Jennifer Byler of Maui, David married to Maricela Byler of Las Vegas, and Kevin of Bethlehem, Pa.; and by three granddaughters. He is also survived by three sisters, Barbara, married to David Martin of Lancaster, Rachel Byler of Lancaster, and Martha, married to Paul Bell, of Delaware; and four brothers, Roman, married to Susie Byler of Alaska, John, married to Judy Byler of Lancaster, Rudy, married to Naomi Byler of Colorado Springs, Colo., and David, married to Kim Byler of Delaware. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lydia, and a brother, Ervin Jr.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 12:30-1 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, Pa., with the funeral service to follow. Interment in Silver Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Simon"s memory to the mission work at New Hope Community Church, 8886 Muraoka Drive, Gilroy, CA 95020.
