She graduated from Greenwood High School in 1951 and attended Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington. She retired after 33 years with Greenwood Trust Co. in Greenwood. She was a member of the Antique automobile Club of America and was a Judge at many car shows around the country. Shirley and Tom spent many years traveling and enjoyed seeing new places. She always had a smile and had a kind and gentle nature. Her hobbies were quilting, reading, and baking. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Thomas Loockerman of Greenwood; a son, Warren Hamstead and his wife Doris of Ocean Pines, Md.; a step-daughter, Denise Tatman and husband Morris Lee of Bridgeville; a step-son, Dennis Loockerman and his wife, Debi of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Barbara Bkork of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Mary Lou Smith and her husband Eddie Smith of Camden; two nieces, Sherry Kielbasa and her husband Greg and Suzanne Olivarez and her husband Oscar; six step-grandchildren, Allison Tatman, Coral and Amber Loockerman, Michael Baccala, David Shauck and Terry Piser, and four step great grandchildren, Austin Tatman Dean, Gianna Baccala, Tahra and Travis Piser. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood and the compassionate care given at Delaware Hospice in Milford. We are grateful for the loving care she received. The family would also like to thank all of the friends and neighbors who reached out and came to visit Shirley, made phone calls to check on her and kept us in their prayers. A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at St. Johnstown Church, Greenwood. Arrangements are being handled by Fleischauer Funeral Home in Greenwood. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
