Shirley Ann Hawkins
Shirley Ann Hawkins of Camden, DE, passed away on February 10, 2023. She was born on March 28, 1935, in Albion, Illinois, to Hollis Chitty and Chloe (Bilyew) Chitty. She moved to Evansville, Indiana, where she graduated Bosse High School. While attending Bosse, she met the love of her life, Bob, whom she married in 1954.
When Bob was transferred to Dover AFB in 1956, Shirl raised her family in Dover.
Shirley was a member of the Peoples United Church of Christ for 60 years and has been a faithful member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church for the past five years.
When her two children were teenagers, Shirley returned to the workforce as a library aide at Dover Air Force Base High School and then as an Administrative Secretary for the Caesar Rodney School District, retiring in 1991.
Shirl was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Patty Williams, and Janette Myers. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Hawkins, Sr., daughter Kathi Thomas, and son Robert Hawkins, Jr. (Mary Lou); 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Road, Dover, DE 19904 on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Friends will be received by the family at 10:00 a.m. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Sharon Hill will be private.
