LEWES - Shirley A. Friend of Lewes passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71.
Mrs. Friend was born Feb. 24, 1936, in Lewes, daughter of the late Thorton and Edith (Simpler) Hudson.
She was a lifelong resident of Lewes, and a bookkeeper for Pep-Up in Georgetown.
Mrs. Friend loved cooking and being around her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward Hudson, Ken Hudson and Charles Hudson.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Colin C. Friend; two sons and a daughter-in-law, George and Tammy Hadder, and William Hadder, all of Lewes; a daughter, Linda A. Hadder of Lewes; a brother and a sister-in-law, Bill and Edna Hudson of Milton; a granddaughter, Amanda Rogers, and her husband, Ken, of Georgetown; two grandsons, George K. Hadder Jr. and Jeremy Hadder, both of Lewes; a great-grandson, Cole K. Rogers of Georgetown; a former daughter-in-law, Terry M. Brewster, and her husband, Howard, of Milton; and a special friend, Betty Melson of Georgetown.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel.
Burial will be in Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Tunnell Cancer Center Patient Care Fund, 18941 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971; or to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
