Sarah Elizabeth Jones Stewart, 90

EAST NEW MARKET - Sarah Elizabeth Jones Stewart, formerly of East New Market, passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. She was 90. She was born Dec. 3, 1918, in Seaford, Del., daughter of the late Napoleon Jones and Amanda Mae Andrews Jones Cephas. Her husband, Thomas James Stewart, preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2002. She worked as a cook at the Seaford Country Club for many years. She also worked in catering, cleaning and babysitting. She was a member of the National Church of God in East New Market, where she served on the Usher Board and Missionary Circle, and was one of the church's prayer warriors. Because of her love of singing, she also sang in the choir. She helped raise as daughters Marie Daniels of Cambridge, Barbara Jean Robinson of Wilmington, Del., Martha Sampson of Hurlock, Margaret Strawberry of Baltimore and Janice Nicholas Potter, of Cleveland, Ohio; two special grandchildren and caregivers, Elizabeth Marie Daniels of Cambridge, and Jeffrey James Daniels of Providence, R.I.; 13 other grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild, Ja'Nija Howard; and an adopted sister, Diane Visey Scott of Hurlock. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at Zion Baptist Church in Cambridge, with Bishop Catherine Camper officiating. Burial will follow in Thompsontown Cemetery, near East New Market. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the National Church of God in East New Market and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church.
