SMYRNA - Sarah Elizabeth Brooks Wright of Smyrna was called home to eternal rest on Saturday May 26, 2007, in Smyrna. She was 82.
Sarah was born on March 23, 1925, in Pondtown, Md., to the late Wilbert Perry Brooks Sr. and Mary Emma Brooks.
She was educated in the public school in Maryland. Sarah moved to Baltimore and later to Wilmington, where she met and was united in marriage with the Rev. Paul Wright.
Sarah received Christ as her personal savior under the leadership of the late Rev. Pearl K. Mathis, True Vine Gospel Church, Wilmington.
Sarah was a great mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She loved working and caring for others. She assisted them in any way possible.
She enjoyed family prayer services and loved the Lord, which she showed in her dedicated efforts to support various churches.
Sarah was an inspiration to both young and old, always extending a helping hand to anyone in need. She believed "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me," Phil 4:13.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Robert Brooks; brothers, Wilbert Perry Brooks Jr. and Bradford Bordley; and sisters Hilda Jefferson, Hellen Carney, Pearl Mathis, Leona Hawkins, Shirley Bordley, Mary Brooks, Gertrude Brooks, Marie Chambers and Marie Rochester.
She is survived by a son, John Savana; four granddaughters and a great-grandson, all of Wilmington; four sisters; Elsie Henry and Edna Walker, both of Wilmington, and Gladys Paskins and the Rev. Delores Freeman, both of Dover; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a devoted nephew, Lamar Henry of Wilmington.
Word of comfort will be given by Ellen Tellot.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home in Dover, where friends may view one hour prior.
