CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Sandra Lee Bish of Chestertown died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, in Chestertown.

Mrs. Bish accepted the Lord as her savior some 34 years ago. She spent her Christian life as a pastor's wife and a Christian schoolteacher at Missionary Bible Baptist Church, Hanover, Pa. She was also the secretary and treasurer of H.O.P.E. in Christ Ministries, a ministry she shared with her husband.

Her husband of almost 52 years, Dr. Richard Bish, called her "the love of his life." They shared a life together since he was 21 and she was 16. She took an interest in whatever her husband did. Whether in the ministry or hunting or fishing, they did it all together.

Mrs. Bish's children, Curtis, David, Jennifer and Timothy, knew her as the most caring, gentle, selfless mother a child could ever hope to have. She was also like a mother to Christine, Connie, Jeanette and Jimmy. She embodied the Proverbs 31 woman in that "[h]er children rise up and call her blessed."

She was loved by all for her gentle ways, ready smile and her love of God's creatures. Mrs. Bish was a vibrant woman who left her mark on the lives of everyone she met. Her desire in life was to serve others and tell them how to have a personal relationship with the Lord.

Mrs. Bish loved children and worked part time at the Chester Cove Childcare Center, Chestertown.

She was the perfect wife and mother.

Though the family Mrs. Bish leaves behind grieves her loss, they also have the blessed hope that they will one day be reunited in their heavenly home. Her husband says that a hole has been left in his life that will never be filled until he meets her again in heaven, where they will never be separated again.

She is survived by her husband; four children; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters; and a brother.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Chestertown Baptist Church, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Friends may also call from 4 to 6 p.m. today in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown.

Burial will be Monday in Crumpton Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to H.O.P.E. in Christ Ministries, 103 Dutchess Road, Chestertown, MD 21620.
