DOVER - Sally June Raisner, of Dover, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, in Bayhealth- Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 64.
Born in Chestertown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Samuel James and Pauline Bostic Raisner.
Sally lived in Chester, Pa., until nearly age 5, then moved to Ingleside, Md.
She went to Sudlersville High School, where she met and married Dawson Shahan in 1959.
She earned her bachelor"s degree from Delaware State University in 1975; her master"s degree from Southern Illinois University in 1977; and her doctorate in education from Temple University in 1988.
Miss Raisner worked in the field of education as a teacher, counselor, principal and program director in Kent County and Queen Anne"s County, Md., public schools. She also taught as an adjunct professor at Delaware Technical & Community College and taught as adjunct professor of graduate courses at Delaware State University, Salisbury State University and the University of Delaware.
Miss Raisner was a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, Phi Delta Kappa, National Certified Counselors, Association for Curriculum and Development, a past commissioner appointed by the governor to the Delaware Commission for Women. She was a past vice president of the First State"s Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
She was a member of the Women"s Republican Club.
She loved horseback riding and rode with the Wicomico Hunt Club, chasing foxes, never hunting them. She loved reading, writing and wildlife care. She also enjoyed her loving foxhound Juno, pets and horses.
Miss Raisner is survived by two sons, Samuel and his wife Julie of Hartly, and Jeffery and his wife Eva of Arlington, Va.; a daughter, Shellie and her husband Randy of Edgewood, Md.; and grandchildren Jennifer Stinson, Randall Stinson and Rachel Stinson, all of Edgewood, and Dawson Shahan of Hartly.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington, where friends and family may call after noon.
Interment will be in the Sudlersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Dover Church of Christ, 1156 S. Governors Ave., Dover, DE 19904; or to the First State Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 100 W. 10th. St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
