GREENWOOD - Ruth Smith, of Greenwood, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Milford Center, Milford. She was 87. Ruth was born on Feb. 4, 1922, in Pigeon Roost, N.C., to the late Perry and Allie Johnson. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker, she also worked in the Greenwood school system as a custodian for seven years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Milford. Ruth was a Cub Scout Den mother for several years. She enjoyed writing letters and sending cards to her friends, listening to music and singing, and she was an artist painting many pictures. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; and a brother, Ralph. She is survived by two children and their spouses, Fay and Sim Chisenhall of Harrington and Wayne and Roberta Smith of Ellendale; seven grandchildren, Beckie Yoder, Henry and Mark Chisenhall, Sarah Russell, Michelle Taylor, R. Wayne and Anthony Smith; and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 15, at Fleischauer Funeral Home, 16 West Market Street, Greenwood. Interment will be held at St. Johnstown Cemetery, Greenwood.
