Ruby M. Phillips Smith, 88

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - Ruby Molly Phillips Smith, passed away peacefully in Care Haven Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. She was 88. Ruby was born on Feb. 21, 1921 to Rial and Elsie Phillips in Seaford. Ruby and William A. Smith married on June 9, 1948. Ruby was a devoted wife and mother. She dedicated her life to caring for her son with disabilities, her daughter, supporting her husband's National Guard career, and her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Arthur Harold Smith, in 2007; and her husband, Col. (Ret.) William A. Smith in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Lee Cloughfeather and her life partner, Mary Gregg, of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; her close niece, Ruth McKelvey of Seaford; sister-in-law, Helen Russell; brother-in-law, Vaughn Russell of Seaford; grandson, Garron Forshey of Newark; granddaughter, Michelle Forshey and her partner, Jeff Chandler, of Millsboro; granddaughter, Shannon Forshey, and her partner, Brian Ball; great-grandson, Tyler Forshey, all of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Visitation for friends will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., and a committal service at 2 p.m. in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
