Rosa I. 'Jean' Welch, 83

DOVER - Rosa I. "Jean" Welch of Dover died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 in Christiana Care Hospital, Newark. She was 83.

Mrs. Welch was born July 14, 1924 near Philadelphia to the late George and Louisa Collison Akroyd. She lived in Kitts Hummock and Clayton most of her life.

Mrs. Welch was a homemaker. She loved to play bingo and enjoyed going to the Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge and other wildlife areas to watch birds. In her earlier days she enjoyed gardening and arts and crafts. She loved family life and get-togethers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Welch; and her sister, Grace Duffy.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Moffler of Kitts Hummock; one brother, George Akroyd and wife Jean of Wilmington, N.C.; one sister, Joyce Doyle of Salisbury, Md.; three grandchildren, Laura Polk and husband Richard of Blackbird, Leland Connor of Lincoln, and Teressa Kusmaul and Ray Cranmer of Hartly; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-granddaughters.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Torbert Funeral Chapel at 1145 E. Lebanon Road in Dover.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to help defray funeral expenses, in care of the funeral chapel.
