'Everyone's Dad'
DOVER - Ronald Nestor Silverio died Jan. 7, 2018 following a five year battle with prostate cancer which finally claimed his body but never his spirit. Ron was born on July 5, 1943 and raised in Everett, Mass. He moved to Dover with wife Susan Lahaie and sons Daniel and John when Susan was transferred to Dover Air Force Base in 1994.
Ron had many interests. He was a talented artist and enjoyed wood carving and stone masonry. He liked various styles of music and loved nature and road trips. His favorite activities were doing errands (the family referred to this as "out spreading joy"), starting projects, solving world problems at Scotten's Service Center, and having coffee with the gang at Dunkin Donuts.
He was so proud of the extraordinary young men Dan and John have become. But his "greatest joy" was his beloved granddaughter Nora Claudette. Ron will be greatly missed not only by his family and friends but by the many lives he touched on a daily basis when out and about. He was fondly thought of as "Everyone's Dad".
Ron was a determined advocate for passage of Delaware HB 160, The End of Life Options Act, a cause he felt strongly about even before his own journey began and right until the end of his life. Unfortunately, the bill did not pass in time to help him. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you contact your state legislators in support of Delaware's The End of Life Options Act or similar legislation in your state of residence.
Memorial contributions may be sent to our telephone support group: Answer Cancer Foundation, 6905 Rosemary Rd., Eden Prairie, MN 55346-2931.
Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Ron's memory on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Please email Susan for further details: susanlahaie@comcast.net
