Roland Duane Jordan, 70

SEAFORD - Roland Duane Jordan of Seaford passed away peacefully Monday, June 18, 2007, in his home. He was 70.

A resident of Seaford since 1980, he and his wife, Shirley, came to the area due to a relocation in his accounting career with the trucking industry.

Born in Durand, Mich., on Oct. 13, 1936, Mr. Jordan grew up and resided in Indiana until he moved to Delaware.

He was a graduate of South Bend (Ind.) College of Commerce, studying business, and completed further study at Indiana Central University.

Mr. Jordan was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Seaford, serving as president in 1988, and district lieutenant governor from 2001 to 2002. He received the Outstanding Club Leadership Award for 1988-89, and was the Seaford Kiwanian of the Year in 1991.

A deep faith in Jesus Christ was a prominent part of Mr. Jordan"s life, and he demonstrated his servant leadership in his church. In South Bend, he served for two years as lay pastor in Concord Evangelical United Brethren Church. He participated in the Walk to Emmaus and served with team leadership.

With Shirley, he was active as a member at St. John"s United Methodist Church, Seaford, where he taught several adult Bible studies, and in St. John"s Sanctuary Choir, served as a lay member to the Peninsula-Delaware United Methodist Conference and was a certified lay speaker.

Mr. Jordan was most loved, though, for his role as a volunteer visitation pastor as he visited the sick and shut-in, taking the message of God"s comfort, hope and love.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley; a daughter, Beth Woyt and her husband Gregg; a son, Jack Jordan and his wife Hope; six grandchildren, Christian, Jordan, Caleb and Joshua Woyt, and Hope and Jack Jordan; his mother-in-law, Helen Matz; and a sister-in-law and her husband, Beverly and Daniel Turnock.

A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. John"s United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar streets, Seaford.

An additional memorial service will be July 13 at Salem United Methodist Church, Bremen, Ind., where burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to St. John"s United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 299, Seaford, DE 19973; or to Delaware Hospice Inc., 600 S. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Arrangements by Cranston Funeral Home, Seaford.
