Robert W. Hollingsworth, 80

DOVER - Robert W. Hollingsworth of Dover died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80.

Mr. Hollingsworth was born in St. Louis, son of the late Robert E. and Hattie (Lillard) Hollingsworth.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1963 and retired as a chief petty officer. He proudly served onboard the carrier USS Essex during World War II, and also was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam.

Mr. Hollingsworth moved from New Jersey to Dover in 1987 and had worked as an insurance underwriter for several insurance companies. He retired from that work in 2004.

Throughout his life, he had maintained a passionate commitment toward politics and progressive issues. He was a wonderfully devoted husband and father, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Mr. Hollingsworth was a 32nd-Degree Freemason and an active member of Union Lodge 7, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Dover.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul R. Hollingsworth; and a brother, James Hollingsworth.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle L. Hollingsworth of Dover; and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Bruce and Diane Hollingsworth of Nags Head, N.C., and Keith J. Hollingsworth of Denver.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, where Masonic services will be 7:30 p.m.

Burial will be private.
