LINCOLN - Robert Martin Messick, 56, of Lincoln, died suddenly after a boating accident on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Bob was born in Milford the son of Norma (Shockley) Messick and the late Ralph Messick. Bob worked for many years at Nanticoke Homes as a crane operator until they closed. He was currently working for the City of Milford, where he was a heavy equipment operator for the past 5 years. Bob was a member of the Milford Elks Lodge # 2401 and the Three Rivers Bass Club. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, finding treasures while metal detecting, coin collecting and loved going to the Harrington Slots where he always enjoyed the game of chance. Bob was also an accomplished baseball player, having played from Little League through American Legion ball. While at Milford High School, Bob played soccer, where he was chosen for the All-State Soccer Team. The most important part of Bob's life, though, was his grandchildren, whom he loved to spend time with whenever he had an opportunity. In addition to his father, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Messick. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen L. Messick; two daughters, Barbara Cherneski of Lincoln, and Patti Messick of Moyock, N.C.; his mother, Norma Messick of Milford; his grandmother, Louise Baxter of Milford; four brothers, Gary Messick, Marty Messick and Randy Messick, all of Milford, and Ricky Messick of Lincoln; two sisters, Joann Haverlow of Felton and Lisa Jenkins of Lincoln; and his beloved grandchildren, Zachary Walrath, Mack Walrath, Mya Cherneski, Bean Cherneski, and Peanut Cherneski.
