HARRINGTON - Robert L. Donovan died peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011. He was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Wilmington, the son of the late Clarence and Mabel Donovan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James E. Donovan and C. Edward Donovan; and a sister, Bea Robeson. Robert graduated from Conrad High School in 1956. He retired from ICI Chemical Plant in 1990 at age 52. Following his retirement, Robert purchased farmland in Harrington. He proceeded to build a log home himself. An avid outdoorsman, Robert would spend the rest of his life at his farm pursing his interests of raising cattle, riding his horses, woodworking, riding his ATV, tending to his property and enjoying God's creation. He enjoyed the old westerns and had a sincere passion for horses. Robert was known by his family and close friends as a retired cowboy. Throughout his adult life, Robert and his family would vacation at their lakeside cabin in the northern woods of Maine, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, campfires, the call of the loon and his million dollar view. Above all else was Robert's unwavering love for his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doris; their four children, daughter, Kathleen Pivinski and her companion Dominic Paladinetti and her son Christopher, son, Robert E. and wife Karen and their children Stephanie Askin and son R.J. and their grandson Cody Askin, daughter, Linda Wessell and husband Mark and their children Mary, Anna and Steven; son, Kenneth and his son Jacob; and a sister, Betty Donovan of Seaford. A memorial service will be 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier.
