DOVER - Robert James Lomax of Dover passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at his home, with family by his side. He was 77.
Bob was born March 5, 1930, in St. Michaels, Md., son of the late Harrison and Esther (Harrison) Lomax.
He was a member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Co. and Bi-Centenial Re-Enactment Group Light Infantry, and was a 32nd Degree Free Mason.
Bob graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1948.
He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps., U.S. Air Force and the National Guard. He was a Korean War veteran.
Bob was a life member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he received many awards, the highest of which was the Silver Beaver.
He worked as a carpenter, Boy Scout camp ranger, Delaware State park ranger and retired from Millwright Local 1545.
Bob spent many summers traveling and camping with his family and friends. He visited all 50 states and much of Canada.
He also served as state director of the camping club National Campers & Hikers Association and it's successor, Family Campers & RVers.
Bob enjoyed gardening, home maintenance, flea markets, yard sales, and country and bluegrass music.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Roland, Paul, Oliver, Clifton, Harrison, Floyd and Edward; and two sisters, Mary Esther and Lorna.
He is survived by his wife, Doris A. (Clark) Lomax of Dover; a son and his wife, Robert J. Jr. and Megan D. (Brennan) Lomax of Rockville, Md.; a daughter, Sandra A. Tribbit of Dover; a granddaughter, Jaime (Tribbit) Bush of Dover; and his great-grandchildren, Jadine and Alexis Bush of Dover.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Feb. 17 at Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
