
SMYRNA - Robert "Bob" Irwin Wilson died on Monday, Aug. 14, 2017.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathryn Wilson; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Silvio Tedeschi of East Sandwich, Mass.; his son, William Wilson of Branford, Conn.; his daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and David McQuaide of Dover; his ten grandchildren, Ryan Tedeschi, Sean Tedeschi, Adam Tedeschi, Amy Flanigan, Daniel Wilson, Andrew Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Joshua McQuaide, Ryan McQuaide and Riley McQuaide; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Wilson; his daughter, Tracey Wilson; his parents, William and Marion Wilson; his brother, William Wilson; and brother, John Wilson.
Bob was born in Worcester, Mass. on Jun. 23, 1927. Upon graduating from high school he joined the United States Navy and proudly served as a crewman aboard a PBY Catalina in the Pacific theatre during World War II. After his discharge he attended college for aeronautical engineering then began work with Sikorsky Aircraft in Milford, Connecticut. He met and married Kathryn Callaway in Mar., 1963. They lived in Tripoli, Libya for a period of time where they had many adventures. Bob then landed a job with Allegheny Airlines in Pittsburgh, Pa. Allegheny eventually became U.S. Airways, from which he retired in 1990.
In addition to his illustrious career, Bob was an accomplished golfer and filled his shelves with many trophies. He was a life-long Boston Red Sox fan with his favorite player being Ted Williams. He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins play whenever he had a chance.
Bob passed away peacefully after a short illness. He will be remembered for his golf game, quick wit, many stories, and his love of family.
A funeral is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, at Faries Funeral Home in Smyrna, located at 29 South Main Street. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Following the service, interment will be held at the Delaware Veteran's Cemetery in Bear.
