MILLSBORO - Robert Edward Hammond Sr., formerly of Smyrna, passed away on Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in his home. He was 57. Mr. Hammond was born in Wilmington, on June 1, 1951, son of the late Eugene Edward and Esta (Kincaid) Hammond Sr. He was employed in the maintenance department for DelCampo Bakery in Elsmere. Robert was a member of the Oak Orchard Community Church in Oak Orchard. Mr. Hammond's grandchildren were the light of his life. Robert also had a great love for people with disabilities and the elderly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Hammond; two sisters, Margaret Truselo, and Regina Cloak. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Joanne (Tucker) Hammond; daughter, Debbie Hammond, of Millsboro; a son, Robert Hammond Jr., of Dagsboro; two brothers, Wayne Kincaid, of New Castle, and Eugene Hammond Jr., of Camden; four sisters, Lennie Hall, of Dover, his twin sister, Barbara Abel of New Castle, Norma Lynn Layton, of Bear, and Cathy Cole, of Rainelle, W.V.; two grandchildren, Alexus Hammond, and Robert Hammond III. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends and family may call Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Robert's name to Heartland Hospice, 17577 Nassau Commons Blvd., Suite 103, Lewes, DE 19958.
