Robert Edward Burgess

Burgess, Sr., 75 SMYRNA - Robert Edward Burgess, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Mr. Burgess was born March 20, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late George and Katherine Burgess. He retired from Local 107 Teamsters Union after 30 years of work as a Shipping and Dock Worker in New Jersey. Robert served his country with honors in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. A devoted father and husband, Mr. Burgess enjoyed camping in the countryside of Pennsylvania and enjoyed working outside on the grounds. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Kathy Jane Haskell and her husband Ed, of Philadelphia, Donna M. Keys and her husband Vern, of Clayton, and Dawn M. Reilly and her husband Tom, of Morgantown, Pa; a son, Robert E. Burgess, Jr. of Smyrna; three brothers, George, Tom, and Ronny; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
