Rieger, Sr., 57 FELTON - Richard "Rick" L. Rieger, Sr., 57, of Felton, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving wife of 41 years, children and family after a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on August 14, 1957 in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Robert L. Rieger and Leona McMullen Looby. Rick married his high school sweetheart, Michaela Tighe, on April 12, 1975, and recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with family and friends, and then set sail to Cozumel, Mexico. He proudly served and sacrificed for our country serving in the US Navy from 1979 to 1995. Rick will be sadly missed by his comrades, Donny and Luke, from onboard the USS Sample 1048, USS Bryce Cannon AD 36. Most importantly Rick was a Persian Gulf War Veteran and an Instructor at Dam Neck Military Base in Virginia Beach, Va. In 1997, the Delaware State Police awarded Rick the Outstanding Surveillance Award at Dover Downs in 1997. He was a member of American Legion Post of Harrington C.K.R.T. Post #7. In his past time he enjoyed fishing with his sons, Sunday meals with his children and grandchildren, vacations at Virginia Beach, but mostly enjoyed the love of his family. Rick will be most remembered for his kind and peaceful ways! In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded by his son, Benjamin; and grandson, Nathan. Rick will be sadly missed by his wife, Michaela (nee-Tighe) Rieger; his son, Richard (Annelise); daughters, Brooke (Dustin) Walker and Brittany. Rick is also survived by three grandchildren, Gavin Rieger, Brooklen and Jackson Walker; his five siblings; his mother-in-law, Margaret Tighe; and many loving family members. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 109 Dixon Street, Harrington. A visitation will be held in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
