
Richard L. Powell, 78
CAMDEN, DE - Richard L. Powell passed away Friday, May 26th, 2023, at home.
He was born August 17th, 1944, in Mt. Holly, New Jersey, to the late Lyman B. Powell and Betty Powell.
Mr. Powell was active in the United States Air Force from 1962-1966. After serving in the Air Force, he worked for over 30 years with Diamond State Telephone, which later became Verizon. For many years, he volunteered at the Air Mobility Command Museum at DAFB. He loved bowling, fishing, and going to the slots. He was a member of the community singers, and he coached baseball at the Camden-Wyoming Little League for many years. He was an avid sports fan, he loved the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies. He was a member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church of Camden and the Methodist Men.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Walker.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty of Camden, Delaware; his children, Richard W. Powell of Felton, DE, Kenneth W. Powell (Ongela) of Dover, DE, and Susan E. Collins (Tim) of Dover, DE; his sister, Carolyn Moretti of Basking Ridge, NJ; his brother, Jimmy Powell of Winder, Georgia; his grandchildren, Paige and Shelby Powell, Aaron and Branden Briggs, Shane and Alyssa Powell, and Evan Collins; and his great grandchild, Thomas Myers.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Thursday June 1st, 2023, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, Delaware. Friends may visit one hour prior. The interment will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden, Delaware.
