Richard L. McKenzie, 69

HARRINGTON - Richard L. McKenzie, of Harrington, went to be with the Lord and received a glorified body, on Friday, April 17. He was 69. Richard was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Sept. 2, 1939, to the late Lyle and Evelyn McKenzie. He moved to Delaware in 1956 at the age of 16, and remained a permanent resident. He had been employed at local car dealerships before he opened McKenzie's Body Shop in 1973, and he was known by many for his paint work. He had a great love for custom cars, custom motorcycles, 50's music and enjoyed sharing these interested with his son and grandson. He would never miss a ballgame that his grandson participated in, rain or shine. Richard enjoyed family gatherings, watching western movies, and being an active member of Burrsville Ruritan. He was also a member of the Milford Elks Lodge, Harrington Moose, and Trinity Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Swain He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Bonnie McKenzie of Harrington; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Shelby McKenzie of Milford; grandson, Dallas C. McKenzie of Milford; sisters-in-law, Kay Welch and husband George of Milford, and Joan Johnson and friend Jack Mills of Lincoln; nephews, Mark Johnson and his wife Aixa and their daughter Vanessa of Lincoln, and Dean Johnson and his wife Lauren of Lincoln. These people were the loves of his life, but most especially, his grandson Dallas. Services were Tuesday, April 21, Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment was in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. All hot rods were welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Burrsville Ruritan, 10913 Knife Box Road, Denton, MD 21629; or to the Trinity Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952.
