SEAFORD - Richard L. "Dick" Drummond of Seaford died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 83.
Mr. Drummond was born in Pungoteague, Va., son of the late Otho L. and Anne Sue Drummond.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Drummond retired from the DuPont Co. in Seaford in 1986 after 45 years of service.
He was a member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher, superintendent, lay speaker and trustee. He served on the troop committee of Scout Troop 182 and was Scout coordinator for Mount Olivet Church. He was a Member of the Kiwanis Club of Seaford. He and his wife were active in the Twinkle Dance Club and the Laurel Cotillion Dance Club. He was also past president of the Delaware Campers Association.
Mr. Drummond was a member of American Legion Post 6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Seaford. He was past state commander of the American Legion for Delaware, served for 25 years as chaplain for the state American Legion and was awarded chaplain emeritus by the state department of the American Legion in September 2006. He was also a member of 40 & 8 Voiture 1420. He served as chairperson of the Seaford Veterans Committee. He helped establish the Veterans Memorial in Kiwanis Park and helped run the Memorial Day and Nov. 11 ceremonies. He was instrumental in establishing the Veterans Brick walk at the park.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June (Griffith) Drummond; his son, Michael K. Drummond of Seaford; and a daughter and a son-in-law, Theresa and Robert Slaughter of Milford.
Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., followed by American Legion Honors at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High St., Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High St., Seaford, DE 19973.
