Richard Joseph Cannon Sr., 82 BRIDGEVILLE - Richard Joseph Cannon Sr., was born in Bridgeville, Dec. 1, 1926, to the late Noah and Mary Cannon. He departed this life on Saturday, July 12, 2008 peacefully in his home. Mr. Cannon received his education from the Delaware Public Schools. In 1946, he graduated with honors (Salutatorium) from Frederick Douglas in Seaford. On Aug. 31, 1947, he married Goldie Geneva Brown of Seaford. He was very industrious and always worked hard. For several years, he farmed and raised chickens for T.S. Smith & Sons while working a second job at nights for Swift Chicken Plant in Georgetown. He always held two or more jobs in his earlier years. He retired from Kraft Foods in Dover, after 25 years of dedicated employment. For more than 60 years, he was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Seaford, where he served as church clerk, trustee, choir member and various committees and boards. Until his health failed, he faithfully mowed the church/parsonage lawns, organized fish fry's, conducted bible study when his pastor was not available. He faithfully supported his church and its programs. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by his son Richard Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Carlton (Lettie) of Seaford, Harland of King of Prussia, Pa. and Wayne (Carol) of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters, Sharon Briggs (Wesley) of Mount Holly, N.J. and Gwendolyn Wilson (Larry) of Bridgeville; three brothers, Elijah (Candy) of Dover, Bradford (Dorothy) of Bridgeville, and Isaac (Barbara) of Dover; four sisters, Pearl Dixon of Bridgeville, Nancy Ricketts of Bridgeville, Martha Robbins of Seaford, and Louise Yarborough (Thomas) of Bridgeville; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, in the John Wesley United Methodist Church, Third & Chandler Streets, Seaford. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, in the John Wesley United Methodist Church, Third & Chandler Streets, Seaford, DE where friends may also call two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Macedonia Cemetery, Seaford. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Seaford, DE.
