Richard Holland Sr.

Richard Holland Sr., 89 DOVER - Richard Holland Sr., of Dover, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, in his home. He was 89 years old. Mr. Holland was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Snow Hill, Md., to the late John Thomas Holland and Mary Atkins Holland. The family moved to Houston in 1924 and then Milford in 1925. He served in the United States Army during WWII as an army medic. Mr. Holland was the manager of Buchanan Service Firestone, Dover, for 31 years. He was past president of the Dover Lions Club and a member of the VFW. Mr. Holland enjoyed watching Phillies baseball. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Agnes Chambers Holland and Edna Biddle Holland; and his brothers, Edward, Willis, Jack, Henry, and Leroy Holland. He is survived by his sons, Richard Holland, Jr. and his wife Connie, Dennis Duerr, Douglas Duerr and his wife Lori, all of Dover; daughter, Diane Partridge and her husband David of Dover; grandchildren, Carolin Lyon and her husband Charlie, Trey Holland and Sarah Duerr; and great-grandchild, Taylor Lyon. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery next to his first wife Agnes. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Dover Lions Club, P.O. Box 532, Dover, DE 19903. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
