Richard H. 'Dick' Dudley, 84 SECANE, Pa. - Richard H. "Dick Dudley, formerly of Millsboro, Del., died Friday, July 18, 2008, in Fair Acres Geriatric Center, Lima. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late William James and Cathryn C. Maloy Dudley. Mr. Dudley lived in Secane for 20 years before moving to Millsboro, Del. He worked as a truck driver for Arco Refineries for 25 years before retiring in 1988. Mr. Dudley also worked for Gulf Oil, Sunoco and Saybolt Labs. After retiring he went on to work for Millsboro Ford. Mr. Dudley served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from March 1943 thru Feb. 1946 and the Korean War from Sept. 6, 1950 thru Dec. 1951. He was also a Soundman three on the U.S.S A.A. Cunningham. Mr. Dudley received the Pacific Theater Ribbon with two stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the WWII Victory Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Korean Ribbon with one star. He was a member of the American Legion Oak Orchard-Riverdale Post 28 and enjoyed fishing, boating and hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Macavage Dudley in 2002; brother, Frank Dudley and a sister Cathryn Pickell. Mr. Dudley is survived by his sons, Richard H. Dudley Jr. of N.E. Philadelphia, and Robert J. Dudley of Ridley Park.; a sister, Diana Singley of N. Cape May, N.J.; brothers, William James Dudley, Fla. and Eugene Dudley of Newtown Square, three grandchildren, Eric, Jessica K. and Rachel N. Dudley and many nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, in White-Luttrell Funeral Home, 311 N. Swarthmore Ave., Ridley Park, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Georgetown, Del. The family suggest the memorial gifts be send to the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
