LEWES - Richard C. Harlow of Lewes passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, July 15, 2007. He was 66.
Richard was born in London on Sept. 25, 1940, son of the late Eric and Muriel Harlow, and godson of his beloved Auntie Belle.
He survived the Blitz.
Richard was a member of the Guild of Master Craftsman. He was an artist, and a restorer of fine porcelain for the Smithsonian, the Blair House and many other respected institutions. Over the years, he had been featured in several prominent antique publications and local papers for his fine work, restoration and charm.
He was an avid fan of all types of music, having played guitar and harmonica in various bands in England and locally. He also had a fine voice and sang in several local choirs.
Richard had tremendous respect for the sea and was an avid fisherman, winning many awards both in England and Delaware.
He also adored his flower garden, which had many admirers.
Richard was a successful participant in all aspects of AA, and felt it was important to give back as much as possible by leaving his door open for anyone who needed him.
He left this world with a deep sense of spirituality and inner peace.
As Richard felt in his heart, in the words of Kahlil Gibran in "The Prophet," "For what is it to die, but to stand naked in the wind and melt into the sun? And what is it to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered? Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs then shall you truly dance."
He is survived by his daughter, Ulla Harlow; his son, Peter Harlow; his former wife, Marketta; his companion, Pamela Egnatovich, and her daughter, Amy; his much beloved cat, Wanquer; and a never-ending network of loving friends.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Fisherman"s Wharf, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 20167 Office Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
