Richard Allen Giles

Richard Allen Giles, 60

LAUREL - After a long hard battle, Richard Allen Giles of Laurel fought his last fight on Saturday, June 30, 2007, in Christiana Hospital, Wilmington, when God called him home. He was 60.

Richard was born March 2, 1947, to Doris Bailey and the late Leon Anderson.

He began his formal education at W.C. Jason High School, and later became one of the first to integrate and graduate from Laurel High School in 1965. He later received an associate"s degree in 1996 from Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown.

Richard was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church, Laurel. He was a very faithful member, rededicating his life to Christ last year. He attended church and Bible study regularly when his health permitted.

He was also a member of the Roger Gumby American Legion Post 16.

In 1966, Richard was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1968. After his discharge, he worked at the DuPont Co., National Cash Register and several other jobs before his health began to fail.

He was well known in the community, especially for providing computer services to many families.

Richard"s memory will live on with his mother, Doris Bailey of Laurel; his dedicated companion of 27 years, Esther Daniels; his brothers, Moses Stancell (Maxine) and Leon Giles; his sisters, Rosaline Stancell, Joyce Stancell, Gloria Smith (Mickey) and Mosezett Stancell; two daughters, Aisha Johnson (James) and Tammy Young (Frederick); three sons, Bryan Daniels (Angela), Dwayne Daniels and Travis Daniels; two grandsons whom he raised, Branson Daniels and Tra"von Daniels; 19 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two aunts, Hazel Roberts and Anna Smith; three uncles, Amos Giles, Monroe Anderson and Charles Amos Giles; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Anderson; and a brother, Eric Giles.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in New Zion United Methodist Church, Laurel, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in St. Matthew"s Cemetery, Laurel.
