Richard A. Gaidis

Dover - Richard A Gaidis, Sr. passed away on Dec. 31, 2014. Mr. Gaidis was a flight line supervisor for the United States Air Force Air Defense Command 98th Fighters Interceptors and 95th Fighters Interceptors in Dover. He had served for 23 years in the United States Air Force. He had been part of the original group working on U-2's at Area 51 in Las Vegas. Afterwards, he had worked as an Auditor of Accounts for the State of Delaware for 10 years. Mr. Gaidis was a volunteer for 20 years for the Dover Federal Credit Union, where he served as Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Board. He has been the only person to date that has served as Board Member Emeritus. Mr. Gaidis was a veteran of World War II and was also a member of the American Legion. Mr. Gaidis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma T. Gaidis; two children, Richard A. Gaidis, Jr. and his wife Sharon of Dover and Rita A. Walker and her husband West of Stockton, Cali.; two brothers, Billy Gaidis of Cali. and Bob Gaidis of Ga.; two sisters, Olga Forbes of Marlboro, Mass. and Ann Mikstas of Marietta, Ga.; and one granddaughter, Alyse Claire Arno. A committal service will be 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 7, 2015 in the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del 19966. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Air Mobility Command Museum, 1301 Heritage Road, Dover, DE 19902.
