DOVER - Charles J.W. "Chuck" Hoopengardner died one day after his beloved wife of 68 years, Christine, on Friday February 5, 2021 at his home. Chuck was born in Hagerstown, Md. to the late Joseph Luther and Catherine Adelene Hoopergardner.
After graduating high school, Chuck entered the U.S.A.F. in 1948 and served his country for 30 years, retiring as CMSgt. in 1978. Over the years, he was an active member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Air Force Sergeants Association, Knights of Columbus Council #4182 where he was a 4th Degree in the Bishop Cartwright Assembly.
He enjoyed bowling and trips to bingo halls, especially the bus trips with his wife to Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Christine Ann Hoopengardner – Dover.
He was predeceased by his son, Joel A. Hoopengardner in 2011.
Chuck is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John and Debbie Weaver Hoopengardner of Harrington, Del.; two grandsons, John Hoopengardner, Jr. and Connor Weaver of Harrington; and three great-granddaughters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 12 Noon, Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at The Church of The Holy Cross, 631 S. State St., Dover with Full Military Honors immediately after Mass. Visitation will be held prior Mass from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901. Entombment will be private at Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover.
Family suggestions donations in his memory to The Delaware School for the Deaf, 630 E. Chestnut Hill Rd., Newark, DE 19713, ATTN Maria Catalina.
