CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Rebecca Ann Boone Saulsbury Griffith passed away on Aug. 27, 2011, in Chestertown, at the age of 81. She was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Easton Hospital to Irwin Todd Saulsbury Jr. and Renee Beaziere Saulsbury. She grew up with three sisters, Jacqueline, Gabrielle, and Renee. Becky graduated from Ridgely High School and moved to Philadelphia, where she attended Pierce Business School. There she met and married her first husband, Donald Folsom Cooper. They had two children, Todd and Gwen. In November 1958 she married her husband of 52 years, J. Russell Griffith. Russ had two children from a previous marriage, Kathy and Larry. Becky and Russ had two children David and Susan. Becky spent her working life as a bookkeeper. She assured that her children could participate in outside activities by being a Den Mother for both her sons Todd and David, and Brownie leader for Susan and a 4H leader for Gwen. She participated in community life, being part of Ridgely Centennial Celebration and the annual Strawberry Festival. Becky enjoyed being part of a bowling league and playing bridge with her friends. Never one to be still, Becky loved to travel. She and Russ traveled throughout the country and overseas. Perhaps her favorite trip was petting whales off the coast of Mexico. She also loved to play golf and fish. She and Russ spent many days together at Caroline County Country Club, and on the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. She loved crabs, especially crab cakes of whose quality she was a stern but fair judge. Upon retirement she and Russ went to Florida every winter. She loved being in Florida where she could go fishing, play golf, go dancing and listen to music almost every night. Becky was predeceased by her parents; her husband, James Russell Griffith; and by her sister, Jacqueline Saulsbury Spencer and her husband Wayne Spencer. She is survived by her sisters, Gabrielle Saulsbury Levin and Renee Saulsbury Koehler, her husband Richard and nieces, Page and Lisa. She is also survived by her four children, Todd Folsom Cooper and his wife Carolyn Ohle, Gwen Ellen Eskridge and her husband Doug, James David Griffith and his wife Carol, and Susan Lynn Johnson. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Kathleen Griffith McLain, and Charles Larry Griffith and his wife Barbara. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Danielle Renee Eskridge, Allison Louise Eskridge; and her great-grandchild, Amaya Renee Wilson. She is also survived by step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christine Marie McLain, Sandra Lynn Watson, James Ronald Griffith and Bradford Kemp Eskridge, Krystena Leigh Lofland, Luke Donaway, Brittiany Lynn Stauffer, Corinne Herr Watson, Daphnie Ann Watson, and Erin Marie Watson; and one great-great-grand-stepchild, Kylie Brooke Willis; and numerous nieces, and their children. Burial will be private, but a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Caroline County Country Club, Denton, on Sept. 17, at noon. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Ridgely Lions Club, P.O Box 148, Ridgely, MD 21660. Arrangements by Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., Greensboro. fleegleandhelfenbein.com
