R. Wayne Carter

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - R. Wayne Carter of Chestertown, Md., passed away on April 20, 2016 at his home. He was 77. Born on July 10, 1938 in Rock Hall, Md., he was the son of the late Richard Hynson Carter and Hazel Gosman Lusby. He graduated from Chestertown High School, class of 1956. Mr. Carter worked for 27 years at BWI Airport, driving a crash truck. He was also an independent contractor, under the name Carter and Brown. His partner at the time, was Bill Brown of Rock Hall, Md. Mr. Carter worked as a truck driver for Willards, for 15 years, driving his beloved "Maxine". In 2011, he retired to work in his gardens. He was an avid gun collector and hunting enthusiast. Mr. Carter enjoyed traveling with his wife and his family. In addition to his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou Bedwell Carter of Fairlee, he is survived by his children, Lynn Chaires and her husband Jamie of Worton, Md., Laura Carter of Chestertown, Md., Lea Carter of Sudlersville, Md., and Matthew Carter of Baltimore, Md.; and six grandchildren, Evan Sinsabaugh, Jacob Chaires, Bradley Chaires, Carter White and his wife Kelsey, Zachary Carter Deemer and Christopher Carter. Graveside services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 255 Comet Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
