Phillip Rindlaub Wooledge, 92
DOVER - Phillip Rindlaub Wooledge of Dover died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2006, in Heartland Hospice House, Newark. He was 92.
Mr. Wooledge was born June 21, 1914, in Fargo, N.D., son of the late John Dillon and Julia (Rindlaub) Wooledge.
He moved to Delaware over two years ago from Hot Springs Village, Ark.
Mr. Wooledge was a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and the USC tennis team for four years, of which he was captain from 1934 to 1935. He collected his Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
He was comptroller for the American Furniture Mart in Chicago, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Wooledge had a lifelong love of tennis and was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, North Central Region of the United States Lawn Tennis Association. He was honored as the tennis athlete of the 20th Century for the State of North Dakota.
He was an avid world traveler.
Of paramount importance to Mr. Wooledge were his family, friends and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Dorothy Jackson, on June 6, 1982; his second wife, Barbara Page; and a son, Phillip R. Wooledge Jr.
He is survived by two daughters, Catherine S. Wooledge of Mountain View, Calif., and Doris E. Wooledge and her husband, Tommy L. Frederick, of Dover; six grandchildren, Susan O'Donnell, Martin Wooledge, Stephanie Hatcher, Scott Wooledge, Debra Hawley and Kristin Hawley; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Wooledge, Christopher Friauf and Elizabeth O'Donnell.
Private memorial services were in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Westminster Village, the Chapelwood.
