MILFORD - Phillip B. "Burt" Van Vorst, age 85, of Milford, died on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Milford Center in Milford, after a lengthy illness. Born on November 11, 1926 in Milford he was the son of the late Cornelius and Cara "Swain" Van Vorst. Serving in the Army during WWII he was stationed in the Philippine Islands and was a member of VFW Post 6483 of Milford. Burt retired farming. He is survived by his wife, Marian E.; three daughters and their husbands, Elaine L. and Norman W. Barrett of Dover, Kathleen D. and Gary Abbott, of Milford, Eileen B. and Richard D. Mulholland of Milford. Grandchildren, Rachel B. Autman of Camden, Derek B. Mulholland of Milford; great-grandson, Will Autman; a sister, Norma L. Warner of Milford; brothers, Willis, Robert and James of Milford, and Donald and Leroy of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Rust; and brothers, Cornelius, Jr. and Nelson. All funeral arrangements will be private. The family is very grateful to the Staff of the Milford Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers the family request contributions to the Van Vorst Park Association, Barrow Mansion 83 Wayne St., Jersey City New Jersey 07302. Arrangements handled by Berry Short Funeral Home, Milford.
