Peter M. Anderson, 81
FELTON - Peter M. Anderson passed away, Thursday, August 25, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Anderson was born February 11, 1941, in New Rochelle, New York, he was the son of the late James J. Anderson and Frances E. McNamara Anderson.
Mr. Anderson was an Honorably Discharged Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving all 4 years at Dover Air Force Base with the 512 Military Airlift Wing, from October 1962 to October 1966. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves out of DAFB for about 10 years after his 1966 discharge.
He worked for a total of 54 years the last 36 years being for the Capitol School District as a chief custodian before retiring in September 2006 with 33 of those years at his beloved Hartly Elementary School, in Hartly, DE. He so loved the many, many children whose paths crossed over those wonderful years. He enjoyed his work, and the Hartly School Staff and children lovingly called him "Mr. Pete".
Mr. Anderson loved people. He was a wonderful, gentle, kind, quiet and peaceful person who enjoyed life and really loved his God and he truly had the "Holy Spirit" within him. He enjoyed reading, going to the Modern Maturity Center in Dover to exercise, and he loved the MMC pool. His motto was "be a friend to everyone he could" and he certainly did live according to the Golden Rule…"treat others as you would want to be treated yourself".
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Dover Council 4182 for many years. Mr. Anderson was a parishioner of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Harrington, DE. He also served as an Usher at the Saturday, 4:30 p.m. Mass.
Mr. Anderson was a member of St. Joseph's In The Hills Retreatant attending annual weekend retreats in Malvern, PA for approximately 30 years. He looked forward to going to his retreat each year to renew his reverence with God and Jesus and pray for friends and family members.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Anderson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeannette M. Anderson of Felton; his devoted daughter, Kelley M. Anderson; three nieces and their families who live in NJ.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE 19901. Friends may call one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
