Perry: Transitional Home thanks Councilman Lewis

Posted

My name is Francis Perry and I am a Veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. I reside on the Dover Airforce Base and recently started a Transitional Home for Homeless Veterans in Cheswold, DE named Janie's Hands. The home helps keep veterans out of the cold during the winter months and offers various services to get veterans back on their feet. As founder, I had a vision to open a shelter or home to distinctly serve and assist the homeless veteran population in Kent County. "While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation’s defenders, we can always do a little more.”

Back on November, 2024 The Delaware State News did a story about the Transition Home and interviewed some of the homeless veterans. I believe the reporter was a Mr. Finney.

Councilman Lewis has been an advocate for our veterans, especially to those who suffer the consequences of war. Many of our warriors return to our communities with scars, both seen and unseen. For those who have difficulties adjusting, the councilman has taken the time to meet with the veterans at the shelter and talk to them and make sure they can get the help they earned. He has personally handed out blankets, served in food pantries and made sure that veterans have a place to clean up, with clean clothes to put on.

Recently one of my biggest supporters Dover City Councilman Lewis was recognized by President Biden for all the volunteer work and contributions he makes in the community and contributions to our homeless veterans. In many ways he has been a God Send for our homeless veterans and all those in need. I have attached a copy of the Letter of  Recognition  and photo I was able to obtain from Councilman Lewis' wife Lannie who is our secretary for the Transitional Home.

What an honor for someone to receive Recognition from the President, I therefore figured I would send this into all local newspapers to publish.

Thank you and my God Bless you,

SSG. Francis Perry, Ret. U.S Army

Janie's Hands Transitional Housing
