Perry Arthur Martinson

Martinson, 79 CAMDEN - Perry Arthur Martinson of Camden passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at Kent General Hospital. He was 79. Mr. Martinson was born November 20, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Perry Martinson and Marianne Laton Martinson. He had served in the United States Army Signal Corps for three years. Mr. Martinson started his career in radio broadcasting working as a newscaster and sportscaster for several stations in Iowa and Minnesota before retiring. His love of sports was life long and he was an active umpire for numerous years. He was a Chicago White Sox fan and the Phillies after moving to the East Coast. Once in Delaware, he became the State Coordinator for the AARP Driver Safety Program, served on the board of the Harvest Years Senior Center and the Barclay Farms Homeowners Association. Mr. Martinson was a member of the Camden Wyoming Methodist Church and the VFW National Organization, he also was a volunteer driver for the DAV. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Martinson of Camden; sons, Peter Martinson and Philip Martinson and his wife Christine and granddaughter Noelle of Fairfax, Va.; daughter, Paula Ennis and her husband Patrick and granddaughter Hailey of Clayton, Dori and grandson Nikolas Martinson of Phoenix, Ariz.; brothers, Jon Martinson and his wife Diana, Jerry Martinson and his wife Bonnie; sisters, Loree Voiland, Marilyn Miller and her husband Ed, Linnea Elder and her husband Ian, Debbie Cassidy and her husband Dan. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 Lebanon Road (Rt 10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Harvest Years Senior Center in Camden, Del. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
