CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Paul William "Bill" Marshall died at Heron Point, Chestertown on Aug. 17, 2007. He was 86.
Mr. Marshall and his wife of 63 years, Eileen, lived virtually all of their lives in Chester and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania until retiring to the Eastern Shore of Maryland 14 years ago.
It was there that he realized his lifelong wish to be on the water.
Mr. Marshall spent most days in spring, summer and fall sailing his small day-sailer or working with the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
An engineer by profession, he received national and international awards in the areas of die-casting and robotics.
Most of Mr. Marshall"s professional life was spent with the Doehler Jarvis Corp. (later NL Industries) in Pottstown, Pa., where he rose to be plant manager.
Upon retirement, he started his own engineering consulting firm, EMAR Corp., with clients in the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Mr. Marshall received his B.S. in engineering from Lehigh University in 1942.
He was an engineering officer on the U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II.
Mr. Marshall subsequently earned a MBA in operations research at Drexel University.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bill Marshall of Carlisle, Pa.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul Marshall of Sudbury, Mass.; three grandchildren, Bridget of Lowell, Mass., Elizabeth of Wellington, New Zealand, and Brendan of Germantown.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Hall in Heron Point.
Interment will be private.
