Paul Wesley Shetler

Greenwood - Paul Wesley Shetler went home to be with his Lord on Jan. 31, 2015, after a period of declining health. He was born July 14, 1924 to Jesse Ray and Anna (Hershberger) Shetler in Kalona, Iowa. He married Dorothy I. Bender on Nov. 24, 1949 and she preceded him in death on May 18, 2005. He served his Civilian Public Service at Terry, Montana from Feb. 1944 to March 1946. He also served with United Nations of Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in 1946. While living in Kalona, Iowa he was a farmer. After moving to Greenwood, Del. in 1989, he retired but helped on his son-in-law's farm. One of his favorite activities was playing softball and he played until the age of 75. He always enjoyed watching softball games and went to many games to watch his grandchildren play. In his later years, he enjoyed putting puzzles together, doing word search and sitting on his front porch. He spent many evenings playing dominoes with friends. He always enjoyed a good cup of coffee when shared with friends. His favorite book was The Bible and he read it through many times. He attended Greenwood Mennonite Church where he was a member at the time of his death. Surviving are six children, Wanda (Daryl) Zehr, Sr., Wava (Roger) Swartzentruber, both of Greenwood, Del., Pauline (Dallas) Miller of Orrville, Ohio. LaVernShetler of Kalona, Iowa, Audrey (Ken) Christman of Shipshewana, Ind., and Wilbur (Lucille) Shetler also of Kalona, Iowa, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dennis (Katie Ann) Shetler, Kalona, Iowa, and Philip (Janet) Shetler of Irwin, Ohio, five sisters: Alta (Raymond) Yutzy, Lena (Vernon) Miller, both of Hutchinson, Kansas, Mary Jane (Edwin) Miller of Wellman, Iowa, Clara and Ruth Shetler, both of Kalona, Iowa. Two sister-in-laws: Emma (Harley) Shetler, of Wellman, Iowa and Penny (Albert) Shetler of Rising Fawn, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, Jesse and Anna, and four brothers; John, Harley, Albert, and Ellis, a brother-in-law, Raymond Yutzy and sister-in-law, Mildred (John) Shetler. A Celebration of Life is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Mennonite Church, 12525 Shawnee Road with Pastor John David Swartzentruber officiating. A private family burial will precede the celebration of life service. Friends may call Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church. Fleischauer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center at 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
