Paul R. Brommer Jr., 76

SMYRNA - Paul R. Brommer Jr., of Smyrna, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 76.

Mr. Brommer was born in Philadelphia and moved to Smyrna with his family when he was an infant.

He attended John Bassett Moore High School, Smyrna, and enlisted in the Navy in 1950, serving four years. He served at Correy Field, U.S. Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla., and aboard the William R. Rush DDR 714.

He was employed as a mechanic for local farm machinery dealers and later as a factory maintenance mechanic for Baltimore Business Forms and Metal Masters, both of Smyrna, and for ICI of New Castle. He retired in 1994.

Mr. Brommer was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8801, Clayton; a member of American Legion Post 14, Smyrna; and a longtime member of St. Polycarp Catholic Parish, Smyrna.

He enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Brommer; and a daughter, Elizabeth Brommer.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Catherine C. "Kitty" Brommer; a son, Michael Brommer of Midland, Mich.; a daughter, Catherine Dunning of Townsend; a sister, Marie Reily of Maple Shade, N.J.; two nephews, Kevin and Dennis Reily of New Jersey; a niece, Terri Sliwyaski of New Jersey; and his dog, Skippy.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South Street, Smyrna.

Friends may call Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.

Burial with military honors will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977.
