SMYRNA - Paul D. Kimmey of Smyrna, formerly of Townsend, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at home. He was 80.
Mr. Kimmey was born April 2, 1927, in Pennsylvania, son of the late Isaac and Mildred (Battis) Kimmey.
He worked as a heater/oil burner technician and truck driver for Southern States, Clayton, for 10 years before retirement.
In his earlier years, Mr. Kimmey owned and operated Paul's Body Shop, Odessa, and Kimmey's Burner Service, and he also worked on numerous farms and for Rothwell's Grainery, Smyrna.
He retired from the Delaware National Guard in 1953 following 10 years of service.
Mr. Kimmey enjoyed fishing in Florida with his sons and sons-in-law and camping in his motor home, traveling to different states and visiting relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Alfred Starkey; and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Danes.
He is survived by his companion of over 20 years, Joan Cannon; three sons, Cecil Holland of Middletown, Lester Holland of Tampa, Fla., and Kenneth Holland of Townsend; four daughters, Loretta Racz of Henderson, Md., Beth Holland of Townsend, Pauline Wiley of Lake Worth, Fla., and Donna Skinner of Middletown; a brother, Kerry Kimmey of Pennsylvania; three sisters, June Hookway of Royersford, Pa., Ruth Danes of Wilmington and Dorothy Kalinski of Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his companion's two children, Chris Cannon of New Castle and Timothy Cannon of Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to a favorite charity.
