Patricia Joanne Rosania Papen, 93 DOVER - Patricia Joanne Rosania Papen, 93, of Dover, passed away peacefully at the Courtland Manor Nursing Home in Dover, on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, of complications of Diabetes. She was born in Somerville, N.J., on March 17, 1915, Pat was the seventh of eight children born to Raphael and Lucy (Carnivale) Rosania. She graduated form the Somerville High School. Later, she married Howard W. Papen. The couple resided in Pluckemin, N.J., before moving to Delaware with other relatives to establish Papen Farms of Wyoming in 1952. Patricia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her earlier life she enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, playing the organ and piano, picture and china painting, and was avid reader. She had a wonderful sense of humor, sometimes delighting family youngsters with zany, Halloween pranks. She often competed in both flowers arrangement and cake baking contests at the Harrington Fair, winning numerous awards for her efforts. She was kind and compassionate to birds and animals. At one time, she raised an orphan baby raccoon as a pet. Mrs. Papen was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, serving at one time as President (Prefect) of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was a tireless worker for the Christmas Church Bazaars. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Howard W. Papen; daughter, Lucie Hastings and her husband, Andy of Dover; son Christopher Papen of Smyrna. Patricia was doting grandmother to three surviving, adult grandchildren, Michele Manuszak and her husband Chuck, Howard Hastings and his wife Kim, Amanda Powell and her husband Jim both of Dover. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kira, and Kole Manuszak and Audrey and Corinne Hastings. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover. A mass of Christian burial will be held at noon on Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, State Street, Dover. Burial will be at the Lakeside Cemetery in Dover.
