Pastor Carol
Ann Terry, 83
Pastor Carol Ann Terry, formerly of Dover, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Pastor Carol was born November 30, 1938 in Hartford, Connecticut and raised in Southington by the late Albert Heise and Frieda Schirmer Heise.
Along with her husband Robert (whom she married in 1964) she raised two sons, Mark and Jack, in Plainville, CT. She was very encouraging of her sons, both in their schooling and their other activities. When not driving them to practice, games or outings, she worked as a classroom aide at Toffolon School; administrative aide and later secretary at Plainville Junior High; a church secretary; and as an administrative assistant at Klingberg Family Centers in New Britain, CT.
She was a very active member of Plainville United Methodist Church, and after the death of Robert in 1995, she answered the call to go into ministry full-time. She renewed her education in Maine, but when that proved to be too far away from her grandchildren, she relocated to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she served two churches as their pastor, before moving to Smyrna, DE where she served as the associate pastor at Asbury United Methodist Church until her retirement. In her retirement, she served on the staff at Avenue UMC in Milford, DE, and again at Asbury.
Everyone who knew her, knew her as a good listener and a great encourager, with a terrible weakness for buying books. In the ministry and out, she modeled the highest virtues of compassion and concern for others.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Terry; sisters, Janet Travers and Barbara Grooman; and two nephews.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Terry and his wife Jennifer of Springfield, PA and Jack Terry of Gulfport, Fl.; grandchildren, Jacob, MJ and Joshua Terry; and nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Asbury United Methodist Church, 20 W. Mt. Vernon Street, Smyrna, DE 19977. Friends are invited to visit following the service. There will also be a celebration of Carol's life on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Plainville United Methodist Church, 56 Red Stone Hill, Plainville, CT 06062 at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Asbury or Plainville UMC, or to your local library.
