Oscar Benson, 75
CAMBRIDGE, Md. - Oscar Benson of Cambridge departed this life Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. He was 75.
Son of the late Sallie and Emmanuel Benson, he was born May 28, 1931, in Milford, Del.
Oscar received his education at the Old John Wesley School, Milford Neck, Del.
He loved to ride. It was not unusual to see him riding his scooter through the streets of Cambridge, wearing his cowboy hat with an American flag flying in the rear of the scooter. Oscar also loved mail orders and would receive more mail than the president. There was not a day that went by that his brother Eugene was not picking up mail packages from the local post office. Anything that you would need or not need, Oscar had it.
Formerly of Harrington, Del., Oscar worked for Bennett Security and Coastal Foods of Cambridge.
In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by six brothers, Ed Benson, Francis Benson, Randolph Benson, Harry Benson, Charles Benson and James Benson; and a sister, Dorothy Benson.
He leaves to cherish his memory five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Roland Benson of Lincoln, Del., Alex Benson, Carl and Frances Benson and Leroy Benson, all of Harrington, and a devoted brother and caretaker, Delbert "Eugene" and Delores Benson of Cambridge; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Beulah Collick of Harrington, Louise and John Gray of Chandler, Ariz., and Catherine Stevens of Harrington; three sisters-in-law, Anna Mae Benson and Esther Benson, both of Cambridge, and Laura Mae Benson of Felton, Del.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Barratt"s Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
